Steroids shouldn’t keep players from Hall of Fame

Michael Weiner, the head and executive director of the association of players of Major Baseball League, expressed his views in an interview at National Press Club expressed that the best players who were involved in taking steroids in their playing days should also be given an equal chance to be in the hall of fame.  He further said that according to him Hall of Fame means that the best players who have played the baseball should be a part of this hall of fame. According to him Pete Rose, despite of his bad habit of being involved in gambling, should also be a part of hall of fame. He further added that Hall of Fame is just like a sort of museum where all the previous best are presented and if there is something of like using steroids by some of the players then that should also be mentioned with their details. He also made it clear that all this which he is talking about is his personal view and it should not be taken as the opinion or view of the association. He said that there are people who have been proved of collusions (conspiracy) are also a part of Hall of Fame. So Hall of Fame should be for the very best players who have ever played this game.

Two of the most famous players from era of steroids named Rafael Palmeiro and Mark Mc Gwire were not able to be part of Hall of Fame due to shortage of votes given to them. But on the other hand another player Roger Clemens, who in fact lied to Congress about usage of steroids, is going to be a part of Hall of Fame in 2013.

Apart from this issue Weiner also talked about a number of other issues as well. He talked about collective bargaining that it can produce great results if parties respects both the power and the ideas of the counterparts associated with the power. He also doesn’t seem to be a great supporter of the World Series of Baseball. About the rule of designated hitter he said that we cannot have one set of rules for one series and other set of rules for other series so it would remain like that. He turned down the idea of a direct proportion between the salaries of the players and the amounts of tickets of the matches. When asked about who are the two owners he would like to go with to a desert island. He named Tom Werner, owner of Boston Red Sox, and the other person he named was Magic Johnson as who would not like to go with him to Desert Island.
